The annual ‘Afropunk Festival’ returned to Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park this past weekend, August 26 and 27, once again attracting a ginormous crowd of fans of all things music, film, skate, and art. The two-day fest featured giant acts such as Solange, Thundercat, Gary Clark Jr. and Raphael Saadiq, who rocked the massive ‘Green Stage,’ Princess Nokia, SZA and Anderson Paak, who played over at the equally huge ‘Red Stage,’ and Macy Gray, Soul II Soul and Nao, who repped the ‘Gold Stage.’
New this year was the ‘Pink Stage,’ slightly hidden away from all the action, in the close by Golconda Skatepark. The smallest of the four stages was dedicated to punk acts big and small with Saturday’s lineup featuring headliners Ho99o9, plus B L A C K I E, Pay To Cum, Pure Disgust (who played their second to last show ever, see pics) and others. Sunday boasted appearances from Rebelmatic, Bloodplums and stage closers Burn.
New York City’s own Burn burned through a total of 11 tracks, performing a handful of new songs from their forthcoming full-length debut on Deathwish (due 9/8) titled Do or Die (pre-order), including anthems “Flame,” “Last Great Sea,” “Do or Die,” and “Ill Together.” The foursome also dished out classic hits “Cleanse,” “Shall Be Judged,” “Tales Of Shatou,” “Godhead” and others. Check out exclusive shots from Burn‘s AP set plus the band’s full setlist from the evening below.
Next up for Burn, they’ll invade Brooklyn Bazaar this Sunday (9/3) for ‘Diablo Fest 2017,’ performing alongside Show Me The Body, Gortex and others (more info). Starting in the fall, Burn will headline Rochester’s Bug Jar on Sept. 29 with Borrowed Time, Moment of Truth and Longest War [tix at the door], which will be followed by a previously announced run with Comeback Kid and Jesus Piece, which hits Brooklyn Bazaar on Oct. 19 [TIX] and Poughkeepsie at The Chance on Oct. 21 (as part of ‘Nowhere Fest’) [TIX].
