This year’s ‘Metal Alliance Tour,’ featuring headliners and Tri-state area’s own thrash metal kings Overkill, along with an excellent bill rounded out by NOLA’s finest Crowbar, plus Havok, Black Fast and Invidia, is currently in its final week, having erupted earlier this month in Illinois.
We caught the New York City showing at a packed Irving Plaza on September 13th, taking in the extreme heaviness brought upon the annual trek. Unsurprisingly, local heroes Overkill completely dominated the stage, immediately launching into their metallic anthem “Mean, Green, Killing Machine” from their latest Nuclear Blast slaughtering The Grinding Wheel. The band went on to perform a slew of huge favorites like “Rotten to the Core,” “Electric Rattlesnake,” “Hello From the Gutter,” “In Union We Stand,” “Wrecking Crew” and more before closing out with a triple threat encore consisting of “Horrorscope,” “Elimination” and the always audience-pleasing “Fuck You” by The Subhumans.
Crowbar commanded the coveted ‘Metal Alliance’ direct support slot, kicking the mood into high gear with their single “I Am the Storm” from last year’s The Serpent Only Lies. Mixing in hits from their LPs Crowbar, Odd Fellows Rest, Sonic Excess in Its Purest Form, Sever the Wicked Hand, Symmetry in Black, and more, the band created furor in the pit with fans clashing to tunes such as “High Rate Extinction,” “To Build a Mountain” and “Walk With Knowledge Wisely.”
