In support of their tenth studio album titled Eonian (released this past spring via Nuclear Blast), Norwegian symphonic black metal extremists Dimmu Borgir recently invaded North America for a string of exclusive record release shows.
The trek kicked off in Las Vegas (for ‘Psycho Las Vegas’) and hit Chicago and Toronto before crashing down in New York City at PlayStation Theater on August 25th for the band’s first NYC gathering in eight years. Manhattan fans, dressed in their best gothic-style attire, including fishnets and corpse paint, raged for the Norwegian dark lords, who are led by main screecher
Shagrath, and rounded out by guitarists Silenoz and Galder, drummer Daray, keyboardist Gerlioz, and new bassist Victor Brandt (of Entomed A.D., Firespawn fame).
Dimmu Borgir blasted through a total of twelve songs in the Big Apple, introducing new and old fans to fresh singles like the speedy “The Unveiling,” plus “Interdimensional,” “Council of Wolves and Snakes” and “Archaic Correspondence.” The hooded blasphemers dove deep into their catalog, performing In Sorte Diaboli numbers “The Chosen Legacy” and “The Serpentine Offering,” Abrahadabra hits “Gateways” and “Dimmu Borgir,” and Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia cuts like the popular “Puritania” and “IndoctriNation.”
DB would go on to end their set with “Progenies of the Great Apocalypse” from Death Cult Armageddon and favorite “Mourning Palace” off Enthrone Darkness Triumphant.
Local black metal foursome Black Anvil provided opening support, igniting the ritual promptly at 8PM with hits from their latest LP, As Was, plus more for a vehement 45-minute thrashing.
