Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals were forced to postpone their USA spring tour with Australian psychos King Parrot due to Phil Anselmo having to go through a second back surgery. With a healed up Phil (and much thinner now due to being ‘nine months clean‘), the band rescheduled and embarked on their headlining trek, hitting NY for stops in Long Island, Rochester, and Brooklyn at Saint Vitus on September 18th, which we caught.
In NYC, Phil and gang kicked off their set with Pantera‘s “A New Level,” immediately causing havoc in Greenpoint. The Revolver-presented show continued with new songs from the band’s latest effort on Season of Mist, Choosing Mental Illness as a Virtue, with crushers like “Little Fucking Heroes,” “Utopian,” “The Ignorant Point,” “Photographic Taunts,” and more echoing through the tiny venue. Walk Through Exits Only hits “Bedridden,” “Usurper Bastard’s Rant,” and the LP’s title-track also made it onto the band’s setlist, which closed out with Pantera favorites “Hellbound” and “Domination” leading into “Hollow.”
King Parrot warmed up the crowd, bringing songs from their latest album, Ugly Produce (on
Phil‘s Housecore Records), to life, spewing out unwholesomely named tracks like “Ten Pounds of Shit in a Five Pound Bag,” “Piss Wreck,” “Disgrace Yourself,” and “Die Before You Die,” to name a few. The Aussies also dished out a few songs off Bite Your Head Off and Dead Set, like “Dead End,” “Bozo,” “Shit on the Liver,” “Need No Saviour,” “Home Is Where The Gutter Is,” “Hell Comes Your Way,” and more.
