In support of their newest studio album Hold It In and the recent reissue of their 2001 effort Electroretard, heavy rock kings Melvins are currently on the road in North America on a colossal romp that kicked off last month in Arizona with help from tour support and fellow label-mates Le Butcherettes.
The tour rolled through New York City for back-to-back sold-out showings at Santos Party House on June 29 and June 30, where the Melvins delivered identical set-lists each night consisting of fresh tracks off of their new record, accompanied by a healthy mix of classic cuts from their iconic LPs like Bullhead, Houdini, Stoner Witch and others, and complimented with a dose of fan-favorite covers from the likes of Butthole Surfers and James Gang, to name a few.
Le Butcherettes, hailing from Mexico and playing songs off of their 2011 full-length debut Sin Sin Sin and last year’s Cry Is For The Flies LP, kept the crowd enthralled with their quirky garage punk rock. The gang have a third album coming out on September 19 via Ipecac Recordings titled A Raw Youth, which was produced by ex-The Mars Volta guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López (who we caught in the crowd on the second night) and features guest appearances by Iggy Pop and former Red Hot Chili Peppers shredder John Frusciante.
