A Perfect Circle

Led by the reserved Maynard James Keenan (Tool, Puscifer), LA rockers A Perfect Circle are finally back on the road on a lengthy fall trip that kicked off last month in Sacramento at ‘Aftershock Festival.’ Featuring support from The Beta Machine (ft. APC bassist Matt McJunkins and drummer Jeff Friedl), the six-week-long outing made a stop in Brooklyn for a huge show at Barclays Center on November 2nd.

Every show on this tour has a strict no photo/phone policy, forcing fans to, and as Maynard himself puts it, “unplug and enjoy the ride.” The audience indeed enjoyed the evening as thousands of attendees cheered and sang their hearts out to Mer de Noms and Thirteenth Step classics such as “The Package,” “The Hollow,” “The Noose,” “Weak and Powerless,” “Rose,” “Thomas” “Thinking of You” and more.

Songs off of the band’s 2004 covers album eMOTIVe made an impact in Brooklyn as well, with OG guitarists Billy Howerdel and James Iha (ex-The Smashing Pumpkins) serenading a nearly sold out venue with John Lennon‘s “Imagine,” Nick Lowe‘s “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding,” and their original anti-war anthem “Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums.”

Along with the ‘All Main Courses Mix’ version of “3 Libras” from 2004’s aMOTION and “By and Down” from 2013’s Three Sixty collection, the phenomenal sounding Keenan and Co. debuted a trio of new songs in NYC, pulling out fresh tracks in the form of the gloomy “The Doomed,” the synthy “Hourglass” and the night’s final song, the harmonious “Feathers.”

The Beta Machine sparked the night with a brief but captivating set consisting of numbers off of their new EP All This Time, rocking out to the likes of “Again & Again,” “The End,” “Pictures” and more.
