German heavy metal pros Dirkschneider aka U.D.O. – led by the legendary Udo Dirkschneider (the original voice of Accept) – are currently embarked on their colossal ‘Back to the Roots Part II’ North American tour, which kicked off at Gramercy Theatre in New York City on February 23rd.
Rounded out by guitarists Andrey Smirnov and Bill Hudson, bassist Fitty Wienhold, and Udo‘s son Sven Dirkschneider on drums, the band brought their heavy-hitting program to the NYC stage, performing only Accept songs for their lengthy set. A packed and what seemed like a sold-out venue went nuts for the meat of the set which consisted of classics such as “Midnight Mover,” “London Leatherboys,” “Can’t Stand the Night,” “Amamos la Vida,” “Screaming for a Love-Bite,” and more. The night’s encore brought the house’s energy to a maximum with iconic tracks “Princess of the Dawn,” “Metal Heart,” “Fast as a Shark,” and “Balls to the Wall” resonating throughout the Flatiron District venue.
We’ve got a bunch of belated photos from the show, including shots of local openers Metalfier and direct support act Elm Street, in the gallery below. The run is set to end in a few weeks in Philly. All remaining dates can be viewed here.
