Pics: Ghost’s ‘Rats! on the Road’ tour infested Port Chester (5/15)

Leading up to the release of their much anticipated fourth studio album titled Prequelle (get it on 6/1 via Loma Vista Recordings), occult-rock titans Ghost are plaguing the USA once again on their ‘Rats! on the Road‘ tour.

Billed as ‘An Evening With Ghost,’ the ongoing crusade graced Port Chester, NY earlier this week for a completely sold-out gathering at the majestic Capitol Theatre on May 15th. Fans had the opportunity to experience new songs from the forthcoming LP, like the effort’s first two tracks: intro “Ashes” and the infectious “Rats,” which kicked off the evening. Led by the flashy and theatrical Cardinal Copia (who is preceded by the now deceased Papa Emeritus I, II & III), the Grammy Award-winners went on to perform a string of hits from their first three albums, with the likes of “Absolution,” “Ritual,” “Con Clavi Con Dio,” “Per Aspera ad Inferi,” and “Devil Church” leading the start of the band’s 24-song concert.

Ghost‘s current stage production is their biggest yet; along with their trademark steep stairs and checkerboard floor, the revamped display features a newly added stained glass window backdrop depicting the image of Papa Nihil, who made an appearance in NY with his saxophone solo “Miasma.” Another big highlight during the band’s first of two sets that evening was their acoustic rendition of “Jigolo Har Megiddo,” which saw Cardinal Copia trading his black tuxedo for a white suit, plus fedora and jamming intimately with a trio of Nameless Ghouls. It’s also critical to note that the band’s new lineup now includes two rocking new Ghoulettes who handle keyboards, tambourine/shakers and backing vocal duties.

Following a brief intermission, Ghost returned to the stage with Copia donning his best Cardinal reds. The band went on to play favorites “Spirit,” and “From the Pinnacle to the Pit,” before treating the crowd to their new song “Faith.” Additional gems “Year Zero,” “He Is,” “Prime Mover,” and “Mummy Dust” (accompanied by a confetti blast) ringed throughout the classy venue. The two-hour spectacle closed out with the Roky Erickson song “If You Have Ghosts,” brand new single “Dance Macabre” (which just premiered!), mega hit “Square Hammer,” and encore, closer “Monstrance Clock.”

Ghost‘s current tour runs until June 1st, where it ends in St. Paul, MN at The Palace Theater. Later this year, the fiends play two special arena shows (their biggest headlining gigs to date), specifically at Los Angeles’ The Forum on November 16 and Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on December 15 [TIX].
