Dio’s estate auctioning off several pieces in NYC

Just some of the items you can bid at the official Dio auction…

Ronnie James Dio‘s estate has announced a special property auction in NYC at the Hard Rock Cafe (1501 Broadway) for September 14 and 15.

The two-day event, in-conjunction with Julien’s Auctions, will feature signature wardrobe, guitars, stage props and more from the heavy metal icon.

“Highlights of the auction include several pieces of original album artwork including the acrylic painting by Barry Jackson used as the cover for the 1984 Dio album The Last in Line (estimate $20,000-$30,000),” reads an official press release.

Other biddable items include worn apparel like jeans, a custom made violet suede vest, leather shin guards, a personalized Black Sabbath hooded velour robe (from the 1981 ‘Mob Rules’ tour), plus props like an animatronic sphinx on plinth base (from the 1984 ‘The Last In Line’ tour), a massive animatronic dragon’s head (from the 1985 ‘Sacred Heart’ tour), and much more.

Regarding the auction, Wendy Dio writes: “I am glad that Ronnie’s extensive collection of items will go to his fans, museums and collectors around the world to be displayed for all to see and enjoy. These items are very special to me but I recognize the historical importance of anything to do with Ronnie. He would want his fans to be able to own, enjoy and see these items for many years to come.”

Fans can also view auction items for free during a public exhibition on September 10 – 14 (11 AM – 9 PM, daily). The actual auction happens during two sessions on Sept. 14 and 15, with the first session going down at 10 AM and the second at 1 PM.
