Following a sold-out ‘ProgPower USA’ appearance in Atlanta, Finnish singer-songwriter Tarja Turunen and her solo band, consisting of bassist Kevin Chown, keyboardist Christian Kretschmar, cellist Max Lilja, guitarist Alex Scholpp, and drummer Timm Schreiner, took over New York City’s Gramercy Theatre this past Sunday (Sept. 9th) to celebrate the release of their new live album Act II, which was recorded during the band’s ‘The Shadow Shows’ world tour.
The former Nightwish singer and Company performed a total 15-songs in NYC, kicking off their set with “No Bitter End,” “500 Letters,” and “Demons in You,” which all appear on the new live effort. Highlights from the evening include a performance (featuring band solos) of “Calling from the Wild” from 2016’s The Shadow Self, a Nightwish medley consisting of “Tutankhamen / Ever Dream / The Riddler / Slaying the Dreamer,” and an acoustic medley featuring “The Reign / Mystique Voyage / House of Wax / I Walk Alone.” The night ended with another The Shadow Self hit “Innocence,” plus My Winter Storm track “Die Alive,” and What Lies Beneath anthem “Until My Last Breath.”
Big Apple’s own symphonic rockers Symfinity opened the evening, performing songs from their new album Anthem, like the title-track, plus “Flipside,” “Dynamite,” “The Way I Run From You,” “Superunnatural,” and more.
Tarja will play additional Act II record release shows in LA and Mexico later this week. The band will then head back to Europe for an extensive fall tour. Get all upcoming dates HERE.
