In continued support of their fourth studio album dubbed Eat the Elephant, alt-rock giants A Perfect Circle recently set out on an October through November tour through the US, landing at New York City’s Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 6th. The Maynard James Keenan-led act performed a massive 19 song set in Manhattan, featuring their traditional, dimly lit show, that, along with the band’s “no cell phone” policy, made for an extra mystical and doomy spectacle. Eat the Elephant‘s title-track kicked off the set, as a full MSG leaped out of their seats.
The band – rounded out by lead guitarist Billy Howerdel, rhythm guitarist Greg Edwards (filling in for James Iha while he tours with Smashing Pumpkins), bassist Matt McJunkins, and drummer Jeff Friedl – would go on to perform new songs “Disillusioned,” “So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish,” “The Contrarian,” “TalkTalk,” “Hourglass,” “The Doomed,” and the night’s closer, “Delicious,” during which Maynard lifted the phone ban: “security stand down, you’re allowed to take those stupid things out now,” proclaimed the shadowy frontman.
But of course, the meat of APC‘s set consisted of their most cherished tracks, including Mer de noms classics “The Hollow,” “Rose,” “Thomas,” and “Judith,” plus Thirteenth Step‘s “Weak and Powerless,” “Vanishing,” “The Noose,” and “The Package.” Anti-war cover songs off Emotive, “Peace, Love, and Understanding” and “Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums,” along with aMOTION‘s version of “3 Libras” rounded out the band’s presentation.
Trip hopper Tricky, widely known for starting his career with the super popular group Massive Attack, provided direct support with his solo band and even dimmer display, performing deep cuts like “You Don’t Wanna” and “Vent,” plus newer tracks such as “Armor,” “I’m Not Going,” and “Here My Dear.” The Bristol-raised musician also pulled out a cover of “Breathe Me” by Sia with the help from enchanting singer Marta Zlakowska.
Los Angeles electronic rockers Night Club warmed up the evening, dishing out songs from their new LP, Scary World, including the title-track, along with “Beware!,” “Schizophrenic,” “Your Addiction,” and “Candy Coated Suicide.” The duo ended their set with “Dear Enemy” and “Bad Girl” off their 2016 full-length debut, Requiem for Romance.

In more news and as part of ‘Record Store Day Black Friday,’ APC released a limited-edition 7-inch of their single “So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish,” which includes a special cover of AC/DC’s “Dog Eat Dog” (stream it after the photos). The band are also getting ready to tour the UK in December (dates).
