Tribe metal favorites Soulfly are embarked on a headlining North American tour that ignited in Orlando, FL earlier this month with aid from Canadian death metallers Kataklysm and Arizona headbangers Incite (ft. Richie Cavalera) on all dates, plus highlighting opening support from Chaoseum (Feb. 5-11), Alukah (Feb. 12–18), and Skinflint (Feb. 19-26).

Soulfly crushed NYC on February 11th at Gramercy Theatre, a venue the band is very accustomed to wrecking by now, as they’ve played plenty of packed shows there in the last three years alone. As usual, fans went insane for legendary hits like “Rise of the Fallen,” “Back to the Primitive,” and “No,” along with “Fire / Porrada,” “Bleed / Plata o Plomo,” and “Jumpdafuckup / Eye for an Eye” mashups. New this time around were fresh hits from the group’s latest opus, Ritual, with songs like “The Summoning,” “Under Rapture,” “Dead Behind the Eyes,” and more sending the Flatiron District into pandemonium. Led by metal master Max Cavalera and rounded out by long-running guitarist Marc Rizzo, drummer Zyon Cavalera and bassist Mike Leon, the band closed out their NYC pillage with a boss outro consisting of “The Trooper” by Iron Maiden.

Marking their second Big Apple show in nearly four years, Kataklysm introduced local metalheads to new anthems from their latest offering, Meditations, performing “Narcissist,” “Guillotine,” and closing track “Outsider.” Wedged in-between their set were Of Ghosts and Gods and Serenity in Fire numbers “The Black Sheep,” “Thy Serpents Tongue,” “10 Seconds From the End,” “As I Slither” and more, along with “Crippled & Broken” off In the Arms of Devastation.

Incite and Chaoseum dominated early on in the evening with their power tracks “Built to Destroy” and “Stagnant,” plus “Kill or be Killed,” respectively.

Seven more stops remain on the trek, which officially ends in LA next week (see full dates).
