Chicago post-rockers Russian Circles have announced their seventh studio album, Blood Year, set for release on August 2nd through Sargent House. Marking the follow-up to 2016’s Guidance, the forthcoming LP was recorded by Kurt Ballou (Converge) and tracked by Steve Albini (ex-Big Black). Here’s more info via a press release:
From guitarist Mike Sullivan’s riff-fueled assaults, to Dave Turncrantz’s war machine rack and floor toms and Brian Cook’s meat grinding bass lines, the sound of Blood Year is that of a band unafraid to flaunt their hard-earned prowess.
Sullivan, Turncrantz, and Cook made a conscious effort to approach the songs on Blood Year with the same organic feel of a live show. In an age where rock records are often built on a computerized grid, Russian Circles chose to track the foundations of the songs together in one room as complete takes without click tracks.
The human pulse and unmetered energy is woven throughout Blood Year, a presence that can be felt with each bone-rattling minute.
Russian Circles have also premiered Blood Year‘s first single, “Arluck,” which you can stream below.
The band will support their new effort with just announced North American tour dates with FACS and Windhand in select markets. Catch the run at Brooklyn’s Warsaw on October 26 [TIX], Philly’s Union Transfer on October 27, DC’s Union Stage on October 29, and more.
