New details have emerged surrounding the medical emergency that preceded the death of former Every Time I Die guitarist and professional wrestler Andy Williams.
Enjoy Wrestling co-owner Kurt Hackimer told KDKA-TV reporter Ricky Sayer that medics on site indicated Williams’ symptoms were consistent with a cardiac event. However, an official cause of death remains pending the results of an autopsy.
Williams, 48, collapsed following a tag team match during Enjoy Wrestling’s Five-Year Anniversary event at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale, Pennsylvania, on Saturday night (September 5).
In a statement provided to Sayer, Hackimer offered a detailed account of what happened after the match.
“Andy collapsed at ringside after his match on Saturday and hit his head on the floor,” Hackimer stated. “We carried him to the side where he was attended to by the two doctors we have on staff.”
Hackimer said an ambulance was called while Williams was still conscious but unresponsive. His condition then deteriorated rapidly.
“At this time, he was conscious but unresponsive. His condition worsened quickly and his pulse faded,” Hackimer said. “Called 911 again to provide an update and were informed that the police were about to arrive.”
Enjoy Wrestling ended the event and asked those in attendance to leave as medical personnel continued treating Williams.
“Doctors administered CPR and utilized an AED provided by the police until the ambulance arrived,” Hackimer explained.
According to Hackimer, Williams was transported to Allegheny General Hospital at approximately 9:45 p.m. The promotion was informed of his death by his tag team partner, Jesse Guilleman, shortly after midnight.
Hackimer added that medics at the venue believed Williams’ symptoms were consistent with a cardiac event, though he stressed that a definitive cause has not yet been determined.
“Medics on site indicated that the symptoms were consistent with a cardiac event, but we were told that the cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy,” he stated.
The new account also provides further context regarding Williams hitting his head during the emergency. TMZ previously obtained dispatch audio in which an operator reported that a wrestler had been injured during a match and had hit his head on a ring post. Hackimer’s statement says Williams collapsed at ringside and hit his head on the floor.
As previously reported, Williams’ former Every Time I Die bandmates have shared tributes following his death, while All Elite Wrestling remembered him as a “trailblazing musician” who was highly respected by his peers.
Williams was a founding member and longtime rhythm guitarist of Every Time I Die, remaining with the influential Buffalo hardcore band until its breakup in 2022. He later returned to music with Atomic Rule while continuing his professional wrestling career as The Butcher.
An official cause of death remains pending.
