Death metal legends Autopsy have announced special 35th anniversary editions of their classic 1991 album Mental Funeral, due out on August 14 through Peaceville Records. Pre-order here.
The reissue features newly remastered audio by current Autopsy bassist Greg Wilkinson at Earhammer Studios and will be available in two formats: a limited red/green ink spot vinyl edition and a 2CD version.
The 2CD release includes the remastered album along with a bonus commentary disc featuring drummer/vocalist Chris Reifert, guitarist Eric Cutler, and guitarist Danny Coralles reflecting on the writing, recording, and inspiration behind the landmark release.
Originally released in 1991, Mental Funeral was recorded at Different Fur Studios with engineer Ron Rigler and featured artwork by Kev Walker. The album has long been regarded as one of the defining releases in death metal, helping cement Autopsy’s legacy with tracks such as “In the Grip of Winter,” “Slaughterday,” and “Robbing the Grave.”
Autopsy formed in San Francisco in 1987 and continue to feature longtime members Chris Reifert, Eric Cutler, and Danny Coralles. The band reunited in 2010 after a 15-year hiatus and remain active as they approach their 40th anniversary.
