Crypta have released a new single, “A Portrait of Decay,” marking the Brazilian death metal band’s first new music with guitarist Victoria Villarreal.
Villarreal joined Crypta as a permanent member earlier this year, completing the current lineup alongside bassist/vocalist Fernanda Lira, drummer Luana Dametto and guitarist Tainá Bergamaschi.
“A Portrait of Decay” was recorded in Belgium in June and engineered, mixed and mastered by Yarne Heylen at Project Zero Studio. The song, which deals with dissociation as a way of coping with pain and suffering, is also available as a limited-edition 7-inch vinyl.
The track arrives with a music video based on a concept written by Dametto.
“The video clip is both an almost poetic contrast to the harsh death metal sound but also a cinematic depiction of the lyrics,” Dametto said. “An ethereal and almost dream-like landscape that represents someone’s true state of being, clear thoughts and light emotions, that slowly dissipate with the passing of time and changing of surroundings.”

Crypta will hit the road next month as part of Arch Enemy’s “Wrath Across North America Tour” alongside The Black Dahlia Murder, Septicflesh and Thrown Into Exile. The run kicks off October 5 in Riverside, California and concludes November 16 in Seattle.
