Bruno Kramm, co-founder of German electronic/gothic act Das Ich, has died.
The news was announced by Kramm’s longtime bandmate Sven Hegewald, who said Kramm suffered a medical emergency following Das Ich’s concert in Granada, Spain. Emergency personnel were unable to save him.
“Last night, a big part of the scene – and a huge part of my own life story – is gone,” Hegewald wrote. “Last night, many stories came to an end. Stories that shaped us, accompanied us, and connected us. Last night, Bruno Kramm passed away.”
Hegewald asked bands and organizers with outstanding questions to contact him directly and requested that people refrain from contacting Kramm’s family while they deal with his passing.
“In such a situation, many things will be left unresolved and unclear. Therefore, please be patient,” he added. “And please refrain from contacting the family for now; they really need all the peace, calm, and resources for themselves at the moment.”
Kramm and Stefan Ackermann formed Das Ich in Bayreuth, Germany, in 1989. The group became an influential part of Germany’s darkwave and Neue Deutsche Todeskunst scenes, releasing albums including Die Propheten, Staub, Egodram and Antichrist.
In addition to his work with Das Ich as a musician, composer and producer, Kramm was also involved in the German independent music scene through the Danse Macabre label.
A cause of death has not been announced beyond Hegewald’s statement that Kramm suffered a medical emergency after the band’s concert in Granada.
