North Carolina heavy rock trio Irata have released their new single, “Goodside,” the latest preview of their upcoming album Human, due out July 10 via Small Stone Records.
According to guitarist Owen Burd, the song explores society’s tendency to take satisfaction in the failures of others while maintaining a sense of moral superiority.
“‘Goodside’ paints a portrait of our collective willingness to revel in the failings of others, as long as we appear righteous in the process,” Burd explains. “The sarcasm of the lyrics is underpinned by the grinding anger of the riffs beneath.”
“Goodside” follows the previously released single “Altar” and offers another look at Human, an eight-track collection that finds Irata continuing to evolve their blend of heavy riffs, melodic songwriting, and expansive atmospheres.
Recorded with longtime collaborators Hunter Allen and Adam Joyce of The Bronzed Chorus at Amplified Acres in Liberty, North Carolina, and mixed by J. Robbins at The Magpie Cage in Baltimore, Maryland, Human marks the band’s first full-length release as a trio since 2019’s Tower.
