Kevin Chown, the bassist known for his work with Artension, Tarja, SteelHeart, and numerous other artists, has reportedly died following a battle with cancer. He was 56.
According to an obituary published by Anderson Funeral Homes, Chown passed away at his home on July 6, 2026, in Escanaba, Michigan. Funeral services are scheduled for July 18, with a full obituary expected to be released in the coming days.
Following the news, Tarja Turunen paid tribute to her longtime collaborator on social media.
“I cannot believe the news I received today. My heart is broken. Have a beautiful journey my friend and thank you for everything. We shared incredible moments together. Kevin, you will be missed. RIP my friend.”
Chown’s SteelHeart bandmates also shared a tribute following the news of his passing.
“Our bass player for the last seven years, Kevin Chown, sadly passed away yesterday after a courageous fight with cancer,” the band wrote. “Kevin brought his heart and soul to every show, every note, every mile on the road with us. That kind of dedication and friendship doesn’t come around often.”
Throughout his career, Chown performed with a wide range of artists and bands, including Artension, Tarja, SteelHeart, Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbats, Edwin Dare, Magnitude 9, and others, earning a reputation as a versatile bassist across the rock and metal worlds.
