Liturgy announce digital archival release of 2004-2008 recordings

Liturgy to release early archival recordings spanning 2004–2008

Liturgy will release a set of archival recordings on July 4, featuring material spanning 2004–2008 from Haela Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix’s early solo era, much of which has not previously appeared on digital service providers.

The releases include The Paranoiac Miracle (2005), Immortal Life (2007), and Harmonium (2008), which document what Hunt-Hendrix describes as a creative transition in her development.

“I was studying classical composition throughout this time and immersed in the aughts’ art-adjacent Brooklyn music scene as well as the art world, although I felt a strong sense of alienation from all of these contexts,” she explains. “Much of this music started out as harmony and counterpoint exercises before being translated to guitar.”

She adds that the work reflects a deeper emotional progression rather than just theory or influence: “But what I want to foreground here is the emotional progression. I needed to make these albums and needed for the music to evolve in the way it did, there was an urgency to it that is simply impossible to put into words.”

The recordings were made during a formative period of experimentation, primarily in bedroom and dorm-room settings using minimal equipment, capturing an early shift away from traditional black metal language toward what would later become Liturgy’s more expansive approach.

The Paranoiac Miracle and Eternal Void sessions were originally extremely limited cassette releases, while Immortal Life has circulated online but will now arrive on streaming and DSPs for the first time. Harmonium documents a further step in the development of the project’s evolving sound and was previously shared only in limited online form.

The archival releases arrive July 4 on streaming and DSPs, with more news to follow.
