Maynard James Keenan is expanding his growing footprint in Arizona’s Verde Valley with the opening of Queen B Sushi in Old Town Cottonwood.
The new restaurant will open September 4 at 816 N. Main St., adding to the Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer frontman’s collection of wine, food and cultural ventures in the region.
Keenan says his interest in sushi dates back to the late 1980s and grew after his first Japanese tour with A Perfect Circle in 2000.
“Although I’ve been enjoying sushi since my days in Boston, circa 1987, my first Japanese tour wasn’t until 2000 with A Perfect Circle,” Keenan said. “It was an eye opening and mind-blowing experience.”
Queen B Sushi will be led by Culinary Director Chef Brett Vibber, alongside Chef Chuhiro “Thomas” Kato and Chef Sheridan “Sher” Chase. Kato previously trained under Nobu Matsuhisa and Masaharu Morimoto, while Chase worked in kitchens across California and Texas before returning to his native Arizona.
The restaurant grew out of plans for Queen B Vinyl Café, which Keenan and his wife, Jennifer, expanded in 2024 to include a café and coffee roaster. An initial idea to add a full sushi program was shelved until they realized Vibber, who was already on staff, had the experience needed to develop the concept.
Queen B Sushi will also offer a rotating selection of wines from Keenan’s Caduceus Cellars and Merkin Vineyards.
The restaurant is the latest addition to Keenan’s ventures in Northern Arizona, where he has spent more than two decades working in the region’s wine industry. His other operations include the Caduceus Cellars Tasting Room in Jerome, Merkin Vineyards Hilltop Winery & Trattoria and the Caduceus Cellars Hilltop Facility in Cottonwood.
