Our Common Collapse have released their new single “Ritual,” marking the progressive deathcore band’s second standalone track since signing with 3DOT Recordings last month.
The song arrives alongside an official music video and follows the recently released “Invertebrate.”
Our Common Collapse guitarist and producer Elliot Merriman explained the meaning behind the new track: “It’s about a parasitic relationship with vices and escapism and how it secludes you, making you feel stuck and isolated but comfortable at the same time—a repeating cycle or ritual.”
“Ritual” and “Invertebrate” offer an early look at the direction Our Common Collapse are taking as they begin their new chapter with 3DOT Recordings.
Speaking about the band’s recent material and what lies ahead, Merriman said: “We’ve spent a long time writing and refining this new material and we can’t wait for everyone to hear a more evolved, fully realized version of the band.”
He continued: “Every decision from the songwriting to the production was made with the intention of pushing our sound further while staying true to the music we enjoy listening to and creating. This is only the beginning of what we’ve been working on.”
Originally formed as a high school project among friends in 2017, Our Common Collapse have developed their progressive deathcore sound over the years, drawing inspiration from artists including Meshuggah and Deafheaven as well as films and literature such as 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Lord of the Rings.
The group released their No Longer Human or Known EP in 2019 and have since followed with singles including “The Lonesome Tongues,” “Languish,” “The Romantics” and “Weeping.”
Our Common Collapse currently consists of Gage Olson on vocals, Elliot Merriman on guitar and production, Josh Solvedt on guitar and Carlos Monserrate on drums.
