Quicksand are back with their first new studio album in five years. The influential New York post-hardcore band has announced Bring on the Psychics, which will be released through Equal Vision Records. Along with the announcement, the band has shared the album’s title track.
The upcoming record marks Quicksand’s first release since 2021’s Distant Populations and their debut on Equal Vision Records. Produced and mixed by Jon Markson (Drug Church, Drain), the album was recorded over 10 days and continues the band’s evolution while staying rooted in the sound that helped establish them as one of post-hardcore’s defining acts.
Speaking about the album, guitarist and vocalist Walter Schreifels said its themes were inspired by looking back at the ideals that shaped him during hardcore’s early days.
“For this album, I was going back to a lot of my earlier influences about ‘break down the walls’ or ‘start today,'” Schreifels explained. “Those records were speaking to the time and providing possible paths to a better future… with mosh parts. That’s the energy that I wanted to bring to this.”
Musically, Bring on the Psychics explores a wide range of styles, from the heavier “Get To It” to the more atmospheric “Crystallize” and the mellow “Days You Run To.” Schreifels said the band wanted to continue pushing themselves creatively while still sounding unmistakably like Quicksand.
The announcement also comes with a North American headline tour, which kicks off August 3 in Norfolk, Virginia. Bane will support the entire run, while Soul Blind will appear on select dates.
