Rose Tattoo frontman Gary “Angry” Anderson has died at the age of 79, the band and his family have announced.
Anderson passed away on Monday, September 21, surrounded by loved ones in Australia.
Anderson’s family did not specify a cause of death. His passing comes several weeks after he suffered a cardiac arrest while on tour with Rose Tattoo in Europe, which resulted in his hospitalization and the cancellation of the band’s remaining European dates.
Rose Tattoo shared the news in a statement: “It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gary ‘Angry’ Anderson on the eve of Monday 21 September 2026, surrounded by his loved ones here in Australia.
“Angry was a devoted father, and much-loved member of his friends, bandmates and the wider music and entertainment community. His loss will be deeply felt by all those who knew and loved him both here in Australia and overseas.”
Anderson’s family and bandmates have requested privacy and said they will not be giving interviews as they grieve his passing.
“We thank everyone for their prayers and messages of love and continued support,” the statement continued. “With love, The Anderson family and Rose Tattoo Band. Stay young, grow strong. TFFT.”
Anderson joined Rose Tattoo in the 1970s and became the longtime voice of the Australian hard rock band, appearing on releases including their 1978 self-titled debut, Assault & Battery, Scarred for Life and Southern Stars. The band became known for songs including “Bad Boy for Love,” “Rock ’n’ Roll Outlaw” and “We Can’t Be Beaten.”
Outside of Rose Tattoo, Anderson also pursued a solo career and worked as an actor and television personality.
