Skillet release new EP ‘After the Storm,’ share “Grave Stomper”

Skillet have released their new six-track EP, After the Storm, along with the song “Grave Stomper.” The independently released effort was produced by David Cowell (Sleep Theory) and the band’s Korey Cooper.

The EP also includes the previously released singles “Scream” and “Lift Me Up.” Recorded in Memphis, the project marks the first time frontman John Cooper has returned to his hometown to record since the band’s 2003 album Collide.

According to Cooper, the new material draws from personal experiences involving betrayal, grief, anger and depression.

“This EP is special to me,” Cooper said. “It reignites what Skillet was always meant to be — which is music that helps lift people out of dark times. I wrote these songs because I needed to be lifted out of my darkness.”

Speaking about “Grave Stomper,” Cooper added: “I was being slandered, but I knew those untrue words didn’t have any power over me. You can’t live in lies very long; the truth will come out. I can stand strong on that as a ‘Grave Stomper.'”

The release follows several new RIAA certifications for Skillet, including “Monster” reaching seven-times platinum, “Hero” reaching four-times platinum, and both “Awake and Alive” and “Feel Invincible” reaching three-times platinum.

Skillet are currently touring the United States on their Still Screaming Tour, which continues through November.

After the Storm is available now on digital streaming platforms.
