The Smashing Pumpkins are celebrating their long-awaited return to Lollapalooza with a week of special hometown events dubbed “Pumpkinpalooza.”
The festivities lead up to the band’s July 31 headlining performance at Chicago’s Grant Park, marking their first appearance at Lollapalooza since 1994, when the festival was still a traveling tour.
The celebration begins on July 29 with a sold-out show at Chicago’s historic Riviera Theatre, giving fans a rare opportunity to see the band in a more intimate setting ahead of their festival set. From July 29–31, the band will also host a merchandise pop-up near Grant Park, while Madame Zuzu’s Celestial Lounge will offer matcha, vinyl, exclusive merchandise, and more inside the festival grounds.
Billy Corgan reflected on the significance of the hometown celebration, saying, “As a Chicagoan, born and raised, I take great pride in contributing to our city’s immense and colorful cultural fabric. And so this year’s already historic Lollapalooza is that chance to make new memories, new friends, and have a bit of Midwest fun, too as only we might.”
The Chicago events arrive ahead of The Smashing Pumpkins’ “The Rats In A Cage Tour,” which launches in September. The tour will feature two distinct sets: one celebrating Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and another spanning the band’s nearly four-decade career.
