Venezuelan nü-metal band Van Der Dijs reportedly killed in deadly earthquakes

According to Venezuelan newspaper Últimas Noticias, all four members of Venezuelan band Van Der Dijs were killed after the building where they were rehearsing collapsed during the devastating earthquakes that struck the country.

The report states that vocalist Manuel Van Der Dijs, guitarist Gabriel Gómez, bassist Xander Hernández, and drummer Abraham Foucault were inside a building in the Tanaguarena area of La Guaira when it collapsed during the twin earthquakes. Rescue crews later recovered their bodies from the site.

Formed in 2024, Van Der Dijs blended nü-metal, rap-rock, and alternative rock, earning attention in Venezuela after appearing at the Nuevas Bandas Festival in 2025. Just days before the tragedy, the band performed a sold-out show in Caracas and had additional concerts scheduled in Valencia and Punto Fijo.

Following the news, fellow Venezuelan musicians and fans, including the Grammy-nominated ska band Desorden Público, shared tributes honoring the band’s members and their contributions to Venezuela’s rock scene.

Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the band, as well as everyone across Venezuela affected by the devastating earthquakes.
