As I Lay Dying have released their new single and music video, “The Cost To Stay,” taken from their upcoming self-titled album, due February 5, 2027, via Napalm Records.
The song follows the band’s recent announcement of As I Lay Dying, their ninth studio album, which marks a new chapter for the metalcore group with a revamped lineup.
Frontman Tim Lambesis explained the meaning behind the new track: “‘The Cost To Stay’ is about realizing that sometimes the life you’re trying so hard to hold together is the very thing you need to leave behind. For a long time, I confused endurance with strength, compromising until I was losing pieces of myself just to avoid conflict.”
He added that the song reflects the importance of accepting change rather than repeating past mistakes, a theme that carries throughout the upcoming record.
Discussing the decision to make the album self-titled, the band stated: “Making this the first self-titled AS I LAY DYING album felt significant because the record feels like both a continuation and a reset.”
The 10-track album was produced by Chris Clancy and Lambesis, with “No Way Out” produced by Dusten Boles. The latter song also features guest vocals from Immortal Disfigurement frontman CJ McCreery. Artwork was handled by Corey Meyers.
The band’s current lineup consists of Lambesis on vocals, Chris Clancy on bass and vocals, Don Vedda and Bill Hudson on guitars, and Tim Yeung on drums.
As I Lay Dying will also return to the road later this month for the final North American dates of their Shadows Are Security run, featuring support from The Curse Within. A separate North American tour with Immortal Disfigurement will follow in February and March 2027.
