At The Gates release full animated album film for ‘The Ghost of a Future Dead’

At The Gates have released a full-length animated film accompanying their latest album, The Ghost of a Future Dead.

Created by longtime At The Gates collaborator Costin Chioreanu of Twilight13Media, the project provides a continuous visual storyline spanning all 12 tracks on the album. Chioreanu handled the painting, filming, editing and production of the film.

Animated videos for “The Dissonant Void” and “In Dark Distortion” had previously been released, while visualizations for the album’s remaining tracks are now available individually as well as part of the complete album film.

Speaking about the project, Chioreanu said: “This is by far the most intense project I’ve done, not only due the circumstances but also because the album is so intense and it requires an insane rhythm for the whole dynamic. It is also the first time that I am doing a full album art video and, honestly, I think it will remain singular of this kind in my career, as I’ve been over several of my limits with this one.”

He continued, “But I am so happy that I could finish this monument for my friend Tomas and for his magical band, who will remain with my heart and my memory till the end of my time here and beyond.”

The Ghost of a Future Dead was released in April through Century Media Records and serves as a tribute to late At The Gates frontman Tomas Lindberg, who died in September 2025. The album was recorded and mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden, with artwork by Robert Samsonowitz.

At The Gates previously released a separate memorial video for album opener “The Fever Mask,” assembled by longtime collaborator Patric Ullaeus.

The band’s music will also be celebrated later this year as part of “The Gothenburg Sound,” a series of performances by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra featuring symphonic interpretations of songs by At The Gates, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity. The concerts are scheduled for December 3, 4 and 5 at Gothenburg Concert Hall.
