ATER cover for Type O Negative song "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend"

ATER cover Type O Negative’s “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend”

Chilean metal band ATER have released their take on Type O Negative’s “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend” through Torque Records.

The cover sees the band putting their own heavier spin on the track, which originally appeared on Type O Negative’s 1996 album October Rust.

ATER frontman Fernando Bühring says Type O Negative have been a longtime influence on him and the band’s music.

“I was introduced to Type O Negative by my older brother back when I was in my early teens. I was immediately hooked, and they have been at the top of my favorite bands list and are great inspiration for me and the music I write with Ater to this day.”

Bühring said the cover came together quickly, with the initial demo completed in a morning and drummer Vincent laying down his parts shortly afterward. The band also brought in guitarist and producer Tebby Muñoz for the solo.

The decision to record the song was inspired by the upcoming 30th anniversary of October Rust.

“Personally I’m not into making covers much at all, but when I realized October Rust was turning 30, I wanted to celebrate with making a tribute to it.”
