California deathcore band Carnifex have released a music video for their new single “Licking Love From A Knife,” taken from their upcoming album More Than Misery, due November 6 via Sumerian Records.
The song addresses the aftermath of a toxic relationship, reflecting the album’s broader themes of survival and moving beyond difficult experiences.
“‘Licking Love From A Knife’ is my favorite song on More Than Misery and a song that I hope speaks deeply to our fans that have survived toxic relationships,” vocalist Scott Ian Lewis said.
More Than Misery marks Carnifex’s first full-length release through Sumerian Records and follows the previously shared singles “Roses & Rotting Corpses” and the title track.
The album finds the band revisiting the heavier, guitar-driven approach of their early material while incorporating the symphonic arrangements and blackened death metal influences that have become part of their sound.
Recording took place in Tennessee over approximately five to six weeks with Whitechapel guitarist Zach Householder, while Jeff Dunne handled mixing. The band spent additional time developing and refining the material without a fixed recording deadline.
The record also features a guest appearance from Entheos vocalist Chaney Crabb on “The Process of Pain.”
Carnifex recently completed a North American tour with All Shall Perish celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Price of Existence, along with several headlining shows and an appearance at Furnace Fest.
The band will next head overseas for the “Death Dominion Tour,” a European and UK triple co-headlining trek with Despised Icon and Suffocation, featuring support from Gates to Hell. The tour begins October 29 in Munich, Germany, and runs through November 20 in Karlsruhe.
Carnifex will perform in Sheffield, England, on November 6, coinciding with the release of More Than Misery.
