Caspian release self-titled sixth album, share “A Great Fire” short film

Massachusetts post-rock band Caspian have released their self-titled sixth studio album via Wax Bodega, accompanied by a new short film for “A Great Fire.”

The film is the third visual released in support of the album, following “Far Country” and “Remain.” All three were created by Luke Webster Brown and Elijah Sussman, with a complete visual companion to the record scheduled to premiere Wednesday on the band’s YouTube channel.

Guitarist Philip Jamieson discussed the band’s approach to the album, which marks a return to some of the musical ideas that shaped their early years.

“Our sixth full length album isn’t particularly uncharted sonic territory for the band but rather a process of self-discovery and coming to terms with the decisions we’ve made and the people we are,” Jamieson explained.

“Caspian revives musical pledges established over 22 years ago, forgotten somewhere along the way but rediscovered here, hopefully, in the form of structural simplicity, approachable melodic sensibilities and being ruthlessly direct as possible with our own emotions.”

He added, “We did this record for the 5 of us.”

Caspian was recorded earlier this year with producer Brett Romnes, whose previous credits include Hot Mulligan and The Movielife. The album builds on the band’s established sound, combining atmospheric melodies, layered guitars and heavy crescendos.

The release coincides with the start of Caspian’s European tour, which begins tonight, October 16, in Manchester, England. The band will return to the United States for two shows in December, performing at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn on December 3 and Paradise Rock Club in Boston on December 4.
