Cheap Trick confirm touring break after canceling 2027 shows, say health is not a factor

Cheap Trick have confirmed they will be taking a break from touring following their remaining November 2026 shows, clarifying that the decision is not related to health concerns.

The band issued a statement on social media Thursday (October 29) after several scheduled 2027 performances were canceled earlier this week, raising questions about their future.

“Many thanks to everyone who has expressed concern for us,” the band wrote.

“To clear things up, we’ve decided to take some time off after decades of touring because we need a break. Not for health reasons.”

Cheap Trick added that they will honor their remaining November performances before taking what they described as their first break in 50 years.

The announcement follows the cancellation of at least four previously scheduled 2027 appearances, including February 13 at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort in North Carolina, February 19 at Thunder by the Bay in Sarasota, Florida, February 20 at Seminole Casino Hotel in Immokalee, Florida, and April 10 at Wild Adventures in Valdosta, Georgia.

Earlier this week, venues began notifying ticket holders that the band had decided to take an unspecified amount of time away from performing.

The cancellations also followed a September concert in Aurora, Illinois, during which guitarist Rick Nielsen briefly left the stage after experiencing breathing difficulties. Nielsen later provided a positive health update, but Cheap Trick’s latest statement makes clear that their upcoming break is not health-related.

The band’s remaining 2026 tour dates are unaffected. Their next performance is scheduled for November 5 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with the current run concluding November 22 in Detroit, Michigan.

Cheap Trick have not announced when they plan to resume touring.
