Chris Kontos exits Forbidden over financial and business disputes

Drummer Chris Kontos has announced his departure from Bay Area thrash metal veterans Forbidden, citing financial concerns, a lack of transparency and disagreements over business decisions. The band has since responded, revealing that they learned of his exit through social media.

In a statement shared on November 4, Kontos said he had been attempting to resolve several issues with Forbidden for some time before deciding to leave.

“I have expressed my concerns to the band members as well as our management, the legal team and accounting,” Kontos wrote.

He cited concerns over “financial integrity, a lack of transparency of accounting” and business decisions he disagreed with or said he was not informed about until afterward.

“These issues have become irreconcilable,” he continued. “I have decided that I can no longer continue as a part of the band.”

Kontos confirmed that his departure was effective immediately, while expressing pride in the music he helped create with Forbidden, including their recently released self-titled album and music videos.

“I have never worked harder on a project in my life. I put my heart and soul into every bit of the work,” he stated.

The drummer also thanked BLKIIBLK Records, the band’s crew, management and fans for nearly four years of support. He said he was looking forward to new opportunities and requested privacy, adding that he would have no further comment.

Following Kontos’ announcement, Forbidden issued their own statement addressing his departure.

“Everyone in Forbidden wants to wish Chris Kontos the absolute best in his future endeavors,” the band wrote.

“We found out about his leaving the band the same way everyone else did. A social media post.”

The group also acknowledged his contributions to their latest record.

“What we created together with this album will hopefully stand the test of time. Chris was an integral part of the process.”

Forbidden concluded by wishing Kontos “nothing but happiness.”

Forbidden released their self-titled album on October 23, 2026, through BLKIIBLK Records, marking their first studio effort since 2010’s Omega Wave.

Kontos had already stepped away from the band’s current North American tour with Heathen and Void due to personal commitments, with Eli Lucas filling in on drums. It remains unclear who will permanently take over the position following Kontos’ departure.
