Canadian hardcore band Comeback Kid have released a music video for “Shedding Season,” featuring guest vocals from Spiritbox frontwoman Courtney LaPlante. The track appears on the band’s eighth studio album, Chosen Hell, due November 6 via SharpTone Records in the U.S. and Dine Alone Records in Canada.
Vocalist Andrew Neufeld explained that the song deals with leaving behind personal struggles and moving forward.
“‘Shedding Season’ is about peeling back the stress, drama, and pain that we’ve been carrying on through life with,” Neufeld said. “It is about defining that moment and feeling confident in the choice to move forward leaving it behind.”
Neufeld also discussed working with LaPlante, whose vocals provide a contrasting perspective throughout the track.
“We were fortunate enough to get Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox to guest on this song and she crushed it,” he said. “It is a back and forth, ‘me against you’ type of lyrical narrative between Courtney and I.”
Chosen Hell features 11 tracks and was produced, mixed and mastered by Will Putney at Graphic Nature Audio in New Jersey. The album also includes a guest appearance from Incendiary vocalist Brendan Garrone on “Yesterday’s Gone.”
The new record follows Comeback Kid’s 2022 album Heavy Steps and their 2024 EP Trouble.
Comeback Kid will begin a U.S. tour on November 7 at Flyover Fest in Oklahoma City, followed by headlining dates through November 23. Support on select dates will come from Defeater, Dead Heat, The Warriors, Barrio Slam, Fear of Loss, Slow Pulse and Time x Heist.
