Dead Kennedys have announced that founding guitarist East Bay Ray has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
The band shared the news in a statement on social media today, September 22, noting that Ray intends to continue performing and touring with Dead Kennedys for as long as his health allows.
“Dead Kennedys management announced today that the band’s guitarist and founding member, East Bay Ray, has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease,” the statement reads.
“Ray says he plans to continue performing and touring with Dead Kennedys for as long as his health allows, and expressed his appreciation to everyone for their continued support.”
Ray, whose real name is Raymond Pepperell, co-founded Dead Kennedys in San Francisco in 1978 and has remained a key member of the influential punk band throughout its history.
Dead Kennedys have not announced any changes to their touring plans at this time.
