Deep Purple have postponed the remainder of their European and UK tour following a medical emergency involving frontman Ian Gillan.
The band initially canceled two performances in Germany, scheduled for Leipzig and Hamburg, after Gillan was hospitalized in Leipzig. At the time, Deep Purple said they were working to reschedule both shows, with previously purchased tickets remaining valid.
Gillan has now issued a statement confirming that the rest of the tour has been postponed until further notice due to concerns about his health.
“Thank you for all the good wishes and support over the last few days, it means the world,” Gillan wrote.
“I had a medical problem whilst in Leipzig which required urgent attention at the hospital. I was hoping that I would get the all clear to hang on until the end of the tour, but there are very serious risks involved in me doing so.”
He continued: “As a result, and on the advice of my medical team and management we have made the decision to postpone the rest of the European/UK tour until further notice.”
Gillan concluded by apologizing to fans for the disruption and thanking them for their understanding.
The nature of Gillan’s medical emergency has not been disclosed. No rescheduled dates for the remaining European and UK performances have been announced.
Further updates are expected from the band regarding the postponed shows.
