Gordon “Kaelin” McIntyre, former vocalist of Pennsylvania hardcore band CDC, has died. No cause of death has been publicly disclosed at the time of writing.
McIntyre was part of CDC during the band’s early years before departing in 2006. Following his exit, bassist Kevin Thomas stepped in on vocals, while original vocalist Brooke Swartz was brought back to record vocals for the band’s Defy The Odds EP.
Following news of McIntyre’s passing, CDC’s Kurt Fowles shared a heartfelt tribute reflecting on their more than two decades of friendship and the experiences they shared together.
“I don’t even know what to say. I honestly can’t believe this is real,” Fowles wrote.
“Kaelin wasn’t just a friend. For more than 20 years, we lived a lifetime of memories together. We traveled the entire world, shared beds, shared stages, shared countless crazy nights, and were there for each other through some of the biggest moments of our lives.
“So much of my life is tied to memories with Kael. There are places I’ve been, things I’ve experienced, and moments I’ll never forget because he was there.
“It’s impossible to process that someone who was such a huge part of my life is suddenly gone. I keep thinking about all the memories, all the laughs, all the miles, and everything we experienced together.
“I can’t believe you’re gone, Kael.
“Rest easy, brother. I’ll carry those memories with me for the rest of my life.
“RIP Kael.”
The Acacia Strain guitarist Devin Shidaker also paid tribute to McIntyre following news of his passing.
“RIP Kaelin 🖤,” Shidaker wrote. “Thank you for always being you. Thank you for touring with us and holding down the table. Thank you for dealing with us. Thank you for making us laugh.”
McIntyre’s time with CDC came during the early years of the Pennsylvania hardcore band’s career, with his departure from the group reported in October 2006.
