Insomnium share new single and video “Arch of the Sky”

Finnish melodic death metal outfit Insomnium have released “Arch of the Sky,” the third single from their upcoming album, Netherworlds, due out October 16.

The new track explores Sámi mythology while showcasing a more progressive side of the band’s sound. Guitarist and clean vocalist Ville Friman explains:

“‘Arch of the Sky’ introduces a proggier side of the Netherworlds, featuring time signature changes and Insomnium’s trademark blend of mellow passages and heavier sections. Lyrically, the song is inspired by Sámi mythology, in which celestial hunters pursue a deer across the arch of the sky in perpetual motion. According to the legend, if the deer were ever caught, the world would come to an end as the roof of the sky collapsed.”

The song arrives with a music video directed by Patric Ullaeus for rEvolver.se, combining footage of the band performing with traditional animation depicting the story behind the track.

Following the release of Netherworlds, Insomnium will embark on extensive touring, including a North American co-headlining run with Amorphis later this year. Hinayana will provide support throughout the trek, which kicks off November 17 in Boston and wraps up December 19 at Irving Plaza in New York City.
