K.K. Downing speaks with SiriusXM

K.K. Downing reacts to Ian Hill’s retirement from Judas Priest

Former Judas Priest guitarist K.K. Downing has shared his thoughts on bassist Ian Hill’s retirement from the legendary heavy metal band, reflecting on Hill’s lengthy career while also expressing disappointment over his own inability to return to the group.

Speaking with Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation, Downing was asked about Hill’s decision to retire from Judas Priest.

“Yeah, well, you know, it has been a very, very long time for everyone,” Downing said. “And obviously, if you do have some certain issues with your health, then you have to succumb when you get the call, I suppose.”

Downing went on to acknowledge Hill’s contributions to the band and wish him well in retirement.

“Ian had a long, good career and a very successful career,” he continued. “So, yeah, obviously, you know, it’s a bit awkward for me because it’s a pity that Ian didn’t accept me in the band a few years ago. I would be there now even though he isn’t. But I wish him well and all the best for the future.”

Downing, who was a founding member of Judas Priest, departed the band in 2011 after more than four decades. He has since spoken publicly about his desire to rejoin the group, although a reunion has not materialized.

Hill, meanwhile, has been a member of Judas Priest since the band’s earliest years and remained a constant presence throughout its career.
