Swedish extreme metal pioneers Meshuggah will make a special appearance at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 24, where drummer Tomas Haake and guitarist Mårten Hagström will meet fans during an autograph signing at the Reigning Phoenix Music/Stern Pinball booth (#4029).
The signing begins at 3:30 p.m. and will coincide with the debut of a limited-edition Meshuggah x Transformers T-shirt created in collaboration with Hasbro. The design celebrates the 40th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie and the 30th anniversary of Meshuggah’s landmark 1995 album Destroy Erase Improve.
The shirt takes inspiration from Megatron’s transformation into Galvatron in the 1986 animated film, drawing a parallel to the title and themes of Destroy Erase Improve.
“Big machinery. Massive destruction. Reconfiguration. A pretty accurate analogy to our sound, is it not?” says guitarist Mårten Hagström.
The artwork was created by longtime Transformers and G.I. Joe artist Ken Christiansen, who has worked on toy packaging, video games, and comic book covers for the franchise.
“Two of my favorite things are Transformers and metal music. When the chance came up to combine the two, how could I pass that up? And to do it for a killer band like Meshuggah, can’t get much better,” Christiansen said.
In addition to the shirt, Reigning Phoenix Music will offer San Diego Comic-Con-exclusive splatter vinyl editions of Meshuggah’s recently announced anniversary remasters of Destroy Erase Improve and Catch Thirtythree.
Fans attending the event will have the opportunity to meet Haake and Hagström while browsing the exclusive merchandise and vinyl releases, all of which will be available in limited quantities.
