Indianapolis death/doom metal band Mother of Graves have announced their third full-length album, The Light That Keeps Us, set for release on October 16 through Profound Lore Records (pre-order).
Alongside the album announcement, the band have unveiled its lead single, “Through The Pale Shade.”
The Light That Keeps Us follows Mother of Graves’ 2024 sophomore album, The Periapt of Absence, and features eight new tracks blending death metal with the melancholic and melodic elements of doom.
The album was produced by guitarist Ben Sandman and mastered by Dan Swanö, who also makes a guest vocal appearance on opening track “Wingless Soul.” Artwork for the record was created by fine artist Larisa Brechun.
Speaking about the new single, vocalist and keyboardist Brandon Howe said: “‘Through The Pale Shade’ is a lyrical tale of resilience in a faltering world and letting the hands of beauty be your uplifting guide through the darkest and most desperate pits of the self and soul. Instrumentally, the song bleeds a similar hope and despair within each note.”
Howe added that the band selected the song as the first single because they believe it captures the identity they have developed over the years.
“We chose this song as the first single because we feel it thoroughly encapsulates the true and honest nature of our sound. From start to finish, it speaks well in terms of our identity that we’ve steadily grown into as a band; coalescing with our personal touches the heavy approach to things and melodies that feel dreamlike without sacrificing the wholeness of the song itself.”
