Norma Jean sets Brooklyn on fire with their ‘Deathrattle’ tour (photos)

A stacked lineup came through Brooklyn last week to one of the best new venues, The Brooklyn Monarch. With an amazing start to the show, Greyhaven got the crowd pumped for what the rest of the night had in store. They played a bunch of songs spanning their discography, so true fans got a full taste of the live show. They finished the night off with my personal favorite song, “Echo and Dust, Pt. I,'” off the 2018 album ‘Empty Black.’

Then the Austin rap metal band known as Fire from the Gods took the stage in a blaze. From right to left it seemed everyone knew the words to these songs. The pit was open and the vibes were high. They started the set off with the title-track from their new release, ‘Soul Revolution,’ only to go all the way back to 2016 to play “In Spite of Doubt,” riling the crowd up even more. The set finished and we all felt the quiet before the storm.

Norma Jean never ceases to amaze me. The only issue for me at this point is, I feel like I only recognized the singer, Cory Brandon, who’s been the most consistent member thus far. Greyson Stewart was also a familiar face, but this band has gone through so many members. I’m just happy they still play a heavy ass show, and nail all the little bits.

Norma Jean fully spanned their discography back to front, like when I wipe on the toilet, and they cleaned up real nice. Smashing their way through songs like “Bayonetwork: Vultures in Vivid Color” and “Dilemmachine: Coalition, Hoax” off their 2005 album, ‘O’ God, the Aftermath.’ They slayed the night, always tight, always on, always in your face! I will see them any and every time they come around the Tri-state area. If you don’t know them, check them out. They just dropped a new album, ‘Deathrattle Sing for Me,’ at the end of 2022, and it doesn’t disappoint.
