Texas crossover thrash band Power Trip have released two new songs, “Precinct 3” and “Scavenger,” marking their first new studio recordings since the death of original vocalist Riley Gale in 2020.
The tracks also mark the band’s first recordings with vocalist Seth Gilmore, who joined Power Trip in 2023. Both songs are available now through the group’s new label, Blue Grape Music, with an official music video for “Precinct 3” directed by Eric Richter.
Recorded at Empire Sound in Carrollton, Texas, the songs were produced by Jacob Hansen (Arch Enemy, Volbeat, Amon Amarth) and co-produced by guitarist Blake Ibanez.
“Recording worked out really well for us because he has the knowledge of making these big records, but also comes from the late ’80s extreme metal underground,” drummer Chris Ulsh said of Hansen. “We’re tough to please because we want something that sounds current, but most importantly we want it to sound like us, however that comes out.”
“Precinct 3” addresses the dangers of unchecked authority, with Ibanez explaining that the band considered what Gale might have wanted to write about when developing the song.
“When we were writing this, we wondered what Riley would have wanted to write about,” Ibanez said. “So once we decided on that approach, it honestly came really easily — the lyrics were flowing and it just felt like the right way to kick off this new chapter and honor him. I think he would have been stoked to see it come to fruition.”
Meanwhile, “Scavenger” explores the subject of people who benefit from the work and accomplishments of others without making meaningful contributions themselves.
“There are people out there that ride along and develop some sort of self-importance from association,” Gilmore explained. “And from there, they wield that in the wrong directions. Or maybe even against the same people they leeched it from.”
The two songs will also receive a limited-edition 7-inch vinyl release, available for pre-order through Power Trip and Blue Grape Music. An alternate artwork edition will be released exclusively through participating independent record stores for Record Store Day Black Friday on November 27, 2026.
Power Trip have also confirmed that they have been working on new material for more than a year, with a full-length studio album currently planned for spring 2027. The record will follow 2017’s Nightmare Logic and mark the band’s first studio album with Gilmore.
The group also have several live appearances scheduled for the remainder of 2026, including a performance alongside Slayer in Mexico City.
Power Trip’s upcoming live dates:
October 21 – Mexico City, Mexico – Slayer: Reign in Blood 40th Anniversary
October 24 – Fort Worth, TX – Sick New World Texas
November 20 – New Orleans, LA – The Great NOLA Trendkill
