Minute After Midnight has released a lyric video for “The Hatman,” the latest track from the project’s upcoming debut album, Matter of Time, due November 13 via Fearless Records.
Led by Nashville-based musician Derrick Ryan, Minute After Midnight combines elements of alternative rock, pop-punk, emo and metalcore. “The Hatman” is one of the project’s heavier songs, featuring breakdowns alongside melodic choruses.
Ryan explained that the song introduces a central character in the larger concept behind the album.
“The song introduces the darker force at the center of the world we’ve been building,” Ryan said. “He represents the darkness that exists alongside the light — the part of yourself you can try to bury or contain, but eventually have to face. The more you try to run from him, the more powerful he becomes.”
Matter of Time features 12 tracks and draws inspiration from bands including My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, All Time Low and Bring Me the Horizon. Ryan previously described the record as a reflection of his musical influences and the concept of time, which also inspired the project’s name.
“Everything stems from the concept of time,” Ryan explained. “When you think about it, music itself is keeping time. The name — Minute After Midnight — is a reference to time. The title ‘A Matter of Time’ was also fitting for the album. I always believed it was only a matter of time until this happened. I’ve got my chance to start now.”
Ryan launched Minute After Midnight after working across several genres, including pop, country and electronic music. The project has since gained attention through independent releases, social media and airplay on SiriusXM Octane.
