Satanic Planet announce new album ‘Dead Deities,’ share “Sam Alito’s Mom”

Satanic Planet have announced their new album, Dead Deities, set for release on October 30 via Relapse Records. The band have also shared the record’s first single, “Sam Alito’s Mom,” along with an accompanying music video.

The group features The Satanic Temple co-founder and spokesperson Lucien Greaves alongside Luke Henshaw (Planet B, Sonido de la Frontera), Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Misfits, Mr. Bungle, Dead Cross) and Justin Pearson (The Locust, Swing Kids, Deaf Club).

Dead Deities finds the four musicians working together in the studio as a full band, delivering a collection that blends industrial noise, electronics and extreme music while lyrically confronting Christian nationalism, authoritarianism and threats to bodily autonomy.

The first single, “Sam Alito’s Mom,” takes its name from The Satanic Temple’s Sam Alito’s Mom’s Satanic Abortion Clinic and references Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito and his role in the decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.

Greaves commented on the track: “In an effort to preserve reproductive rights in the face of theocratic opposition, The Satanic Temple has opened three abortion clinics and is currently working toward opening a fourth. We named the first of our clinics ‘Sam Alito’s Mom’s Satanic Abortion Clinic,’ and following the opening of the fourth clinic, we are going to sue to establish our religious freedom to ship abortion pharmaceuticals to any state in the U.S. regardless of their restrictions on bodily autonomy. This is our fight, and this is our song about that fight.”

Musically, “Sam Alito’s Mom” features Greaves and Pearson trading vocals over a slow and abrasive backdrop, offering the first glimpse into the darker and more focused direction of Dead Deities.

The 11-track album also includes songs titled “Antichrist,” “Church Burning,” “Headless Man,” “Ammosexual” and “Satan’s Spawn.”
