Trivium announce new album ‘Crown In The Grave,’ share title track and video

Trivium have announced their eleventh studio album, Crown In The Grave, set for release on November 20 through Roadrunner Records. The band have also shared the album’s title track alongside an accompanying music video.

The new song combines the band’s signature heavy riffs, melodic passages, and technical guitar work. Its music video, directed by Pavel Trebukhin, draws inspiration from Japanese Noh theater and features a post-apocalyptic setting influenced by the album’s themes.

“Crown In The Grave is our eleventh record, and when you get this far into a career, it’s easy to rest on what you’ve already done — or to reinvent yourself just for the sake of it,” bassist Paolo Gregoletto said. “With this record, we wanted to find the space between those two things: Take everything we’ve learned and everything that makes Trivium what it is, but present it in ways we hadn’t before.”

Gregoletto also revealed that the title track was inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s film Throne of Blood, with Japanese horror and cinema from the 1950s through the 1970s helping shape the album’s overall direction.

Crown In The Grave marks Trivium’s first album recorded at their own studio, The Hangar, in Orlando, Florida. It also features drummer Alex Rüdinger, who joined the band following the departure of Alex Bent. The record was produced by longtime collaborator Josh Wilbur and mixed by Jacob Hansen.

“We took all of the elements of Trivium, honed in on them, and focused on writing songs with big riffs and big hooks,” guitarist Corey Beaulieu said. “We made the record we’d been dying to make.”

The album is available for pre-order now.
