Guitarist Mike Joseph Clampitt has announced his departure from VCTMS after five years with the band, citing alleged mistreatment of members, crew, and others involved in the group’s touring operations.
In a lengthy statement shared on social media, Clampitt described his decision to leave as difficult but necessary, claiming that his experiences during the band’s most recent tour convinced him he could no longer remain involved.
“After 5 years with VCTMS, I recently made the incredibly difficult but necessary decision to leave the band,” he wrote.
Clampitt went on to accuse bandmate Meredith of abusive behavior toward fellow musicians, crew members, and others on tour. He also acknowledged that he and fellow member John had failed to intervene when they witnessed what he described as ongoing mistreatment.
“Meredith is abusive in the way she treats others, and John and I enabled that abuse by never having the courage to stand up to her when necessary,” Clampitt alleged.
He further claimed to have witnessed incidents involving verbal mistreatment, objects being thrown, public humiliation of crew members, unpaid personnel, and inappropriate use of band funds. Clampitt also alleged that members of the band’s management and team were unaware of some of these issues.
According to the guitarist, the situation extended to his own experiences within the group. He alleged that Meredith had repeatedly insulted him and that attempts to address problems through discussion were met with negative reactions.
Clampitt also claimed that he had witnessed dangerous situations involving band personnel, including circumstances he characterized as potentially life-threatening.
Reflecting on his time with VCTMS, he said the experience had affected his friendships, career opportunities, and emotional well-being. He also expressed regret over remaining silent about the behavior he says he witnessed.
“This past experience, made me realize I had to stop being complacent, and accept my role in why the abuse was able to go on for so long unchecked,” he wrote.
Clampitt emphasized that his statement was not intended to damage the band’s reputation, but rather to bring attention to issues he believes need to be addressed.
He concluded by expressing hope that those affected by his previous silence would forgive him.
The allegations outlined in Clampitt’s statement have not been independently verified. No response from VCTMS or the individuals named in his statement was included in the material provided.
