Venom have shared another tribute to late frontman and bassist Conrad “Cronos” Lant following his death last week.
In a new message signed by Danny and Stuart, the band thanked fans for the outpouring of condolences and reflected on Cronos’ connection to Venom and its longtime followers.
“This is something we never thought we would have to say or even how to start…but we will by thanking all the legions for their condolences, thoughts and love after this tragic loss,” they wrote.
“Conrad touched so many lives through the music and his very being..we are so grateful we were part of that….
“He was Venom through and through, and with all you behind him it felt eternal….and you all must keep the black flame burning for him….you are all Venom now.”
The band also sent its support to Cronos’ son Nathan and Hels, asking fans to keep them in mind as they remember the musician.
“Our hearts go out to Nathan and Hels, while time will move for us it’s frozen in loss for them.
“When you celebrate Conrad, celebrate them
“When you think of him, think of them
“When you feel his loss, feel for them
“Play your songs and raise a glass….
“He’d tell you all the same….
“Turn that fucker up!!”
Cronos’ death was announced on October 1. A cause of death has not been revealed.
The musician spent more than four decades at the heart of Venom, appearing on landmark releases including Welcome to Hell, Black Metal, At War With Satan and Possessed. Venom’s early work went on to have a major influence on generations of thrash, death and black metal bands.
Following the announcement of his death, Cronos’ son Nathan thanked fans for their support of his father over the years, adding, “He has laid down his soul, and his music will live on. The legend of Cronos will never die.”
