Amon Amarth have announced their 13th studio album, The Allfather Awakens, due out October 2 via Metal Blade Records (pre-order).
Alongside the announcement, the band has released the album’s opening track, “Gjallarhorn,” accompanied by an official music video. The new single follows the recent acoustic release of “Upphaf,” offering a much heavier introduction to the band’s next chapter.
The Allfather Awakens follows 2022’s The Great Heathen Army. While Odin once again serves as a central inspiration throughout the lyrics and artwork, the band says the album is not a concept record. Instead, it features a collection of stories inspired by Norse mythology and history, centered around themes of conflict, sacrifice, and perseverance.
The album was recorded with longtime producer Jacob Hansen at his studio in Denmark over two sessions spanning 2025 and early 2026. According to guitarist Olavi Mikkonen, the band took a different approach this time, writing and completing each song individually before moving on to the next.
